The first six trainees were accepted into MAGNET in September 2012. MAGNET doubled in size each year for the following two years, and by the final year of the program (2017-2018), there were 30 active trainees. In total, MAGNET financially supported and trained 71 trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral level over its six-year duration.
MAGNET’s value-added training initiatives equipped graduates with technical and professional skills that improved job readiness, facilitated transition to the workforce and expanded possible career trajectories. Trainees have gone on to pursue careers in both academia and industry, including high-profile faculty and postdoctoral positions at leading institutions and senior positions at mining, consulting, and analytical companies, where they continue to make impactful contributions to their fields.
We wish all our trainees the best!
