I am a volcanologist/geochemist currently working as a NSERC postdoctoral fellow with Professor John Stix at McGill University. I obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Earth Sciences at McGill University in 2003 and a Ph.D. at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland in 2009. In my research, I use fieldwork in conjunction with geochemistry to understand volcanic and magmatic systems as well as their evolution through time.
My current projects focus on Cosigüina and Concepción volcanoes, in Nicaragua, and the volcanism of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands. At Cosigüina and Concepción I study andesite and dacite tephra layers to understand the conditions that cause large explosive eruptions at these volcanoes. At El Hierro I analyse crystals and volcanic glasses from basanite samples of the 2011-2012 submarine eruption, the first confirmed historical eruption on or near this island, to constrain the magma plumbing dynamics and magma degassing associated with this fascinating event.
