Call for MAGNET Research Awards

The Multidisciplinary Applied Geochemistry Network is pleased to offer Research Awards that will provide one-time funding for MAGNET trainees to conduct original, student-driven research.

The awards will fund analyses and/or fieldwork that adds an extra component/perspective to your thesis. The awards will not fund research that is an already established part of your thesis or research that has already taken place.  Studies that promote collaboration/exchange within the MAGNET network (i.e., with other faculty, trainees, collaborators or industry partners) are highly encouraged.

The awards are valued at up to $5000 each and will cover analytical and/or field expenses (including travel) or other approved costs related to the study. Up to 5 awards are available, which will be fairly distributed at both the MSc and PhD levels (at least 2 awards each). MAGNET undergraduate and postdoctoral trainees are not eligible to apply.

Required documents:
– Mini-proposal (max. 3 pages) detailing the aims of the study (and how it complements/enhances your thesis), analytical and/or field methods, anticipated results/impact, collaboration (if any), and budget
– CV
– Letter of support from supervisor (sent directly to the Program Coordinator)

Application deadline: March 3, 2016

The applications will be reviewed by MAGNET postdoctoral fellows and faculty, with decisions communicated in late March. A brief report, detailing preliminary results and how the funds were used, must be completed within 12 months of receiving the award.

Please contact the Program Coordinator if you have any questions.
